The Government

Austenasia is governed by a system that combines both tradition and modern principles. As of 4 June 2025, the Empire was formally reorganised into the Commonwealth of Austenasia, following the deposition of the former Emperor after an unlawful attempt to call a general election in breach of the Elections Act of 2020.

At the helm of the Government is the Prime Minister, who also currently serves as Lord Protector and Regent to the Crown. In this capacity, he holds both executive and ceremonial authority, overseeing the day-to-day administration of the Commonwealth and exercising the powers of the suspended monarchy.

The position of Emperor is currently vacant, with Crown Prince Shiro yet to accept the Government’s invitation to assume the throne. Until then, the monarchy has been placed on what the Lord Protector has called “a brief sabbatical,” with the throne in abeyance and the Constitution temporarily suspended under martial law.

Despite these extraordinary measures, the Commonwealth remains committed to the principles of liberty, justice, and prosperity. The Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister—both elected by popular vote—continue to shape national policy and ensure that the state functions efficiently, even during this period of constitutional transition.

This current system of governance reflects a balance between temporary centralised authority and democratic oversight, with the Lord Protector providing stability and continuity in the absence of a reigning monarch. The reorganisation underscores the supremacy of the elected Government and its responsibility to safeguard the rule of law and the will of the people.

Lord Musgrave became Lord Protector and Regent to the Crown on 3 June 2025, after Emperor Aggelos I was deposed after illegally attempting to call an early general election.
