The Empire of Austenasia was established on 20 September 2008 by Terry and Jonathan Austen, a father and son. Terry became the first Emperor, while Jonathan served as Austenasia’s inaugural Prime Minister.

The Empire regards itself as a successor to the Roman Empire, reviving imperial rule in former Roman territories while also expanding beyond its historical boundaries.

Christianity has historically been the dominant religion in Austenasia, leading to its designation as the Commonwealth’s official faith in 2017. However, no particular denomination is favored, and constitutional law upholds the right of all Austenasians to follow any religion or none.

A Brief History

The coronation of His Imperial Majesty, Emperor Terry I (20 May 2009)

Emperor Terry I Augustus abdicated on 15 February 2010, precipitating a brief constitutional crisis when his son and heir, then-Prime Minister Jonathan Austen, declined to accept the throne. The Crown subsequently passed to the second in line, Lord Esmond, who ascended as Emperor Esmond III Augustus. Since then, Austenasia has been ruled by several monarchs, including Emperor Declan I Augustus, Emperor Jonathan I Augustus, and Emperor Aggelos I Augustus. The throne is currently vacant.

On 3 June 2025, while serving as Prime Minister, Lord Andrew Musgrave declared that Emperor Aggelos I had forfeited the throne following the latter’s unlawful attempt to declare a general election in violation of the Elections Act 2020.
