The Commonwealth of Austenasia was established on 20 September 2008, originally as the Empire of Austenasia, by Terry and Jonathan Austen, a father and son. Terry became the first Emperor, while Jonathan served as Austenasia’s inaugural Prime Minister.
The Commonwealth regards itself as a successor to the Roman Empire, reviving imperial rule in former Roman territories while also expanding beyond its historical boundaries.
Christianity has historically been the dominant religion in Austenasia, leading to its designation as the Commonwealth’s official faith in 2017. However, no particular denomination is favored, and constitutional law upholds the right of all Austenasians to follow any religion or none.
A Brief History
Emperor Terry I abdicated on 15 February 2010, plunging the nation into a brief crisis as his son and heir, then-Prime Minister Jonathan Austen, refused to take the throne. He was succeeded by the second-in-line, Lord Esmond, who ascended as Emperor Esmond III. Since then, Austenasia has been ruled by several monarchs, including Emperor Declan I, Emperor Jonathan I Augustus, and Emperor Aggelos I. The throne is currently vacant.
On 3 June 2025, Lord Andrew Musgrave, serving as Prime Minister and Lord Protector of Austenasia, deposed Emperor Aggelos I following the latter’s unlawful attempt to declare a general election, in violation of the Elections Act of 2020. In the aftermath, Musgrave proclaimed Austenasia a Commonwealth. The throne remains vacant, with Crown Prince Shiro widely regarded as the presumed heir, and Lord Musgrave currently serving as regent.
